FAQs Deutschlandticket

  • The Deutschlandticket is a public transport pass that allows you to use all local means of transport throughout Germany, i.e. buses, underground trains, trams, suburban trains as well as regional trains of the DB - without any tariff or network limitations. It is valid for 2nd class. Long-distance train services (ICE, IC, EC) cannot be used with the ticket. The Deutschlandticket is also not valid with providers such as FlixTrain.

  • No, the Deutschlandticket is only available as a subscription ticket but can be cancelled on a monthly basis.

  • The Deutschlandticket costs 63 euros per month.

  • The Deutschlandticket is available as a digital subscription in the Rheinbahn app or as a classic chip card via an order form. You can get this in the CustomerCentres or you can fill it out directly online at the top of the page.

  • No, unfortunately that is not possible. Like other season tickets, the Deutschlandticket can only be used as a digital version in the app OR as a chip card. 

    This regulation applies to all transport companies throughout Germany.

  • In principle, we automatically convert all private season tickets to the Deutschlandticket, so you don't have to worry about it. Exceptions are subscriptions that are cheaper than the Deutschlandticket, i.e. Schokoticket and Sozialticket. 

    At the beginning of March, we personally informed everyone whose subscription we would be converting.

    You can find out here what you need to do to object to the automatic changeover or if you would like to change from the Schokoticket or SozialTicket to the Deutschlandticket.

  • In our letter at the beginning of March, you received a sticker that you can temporarily affix to your existing chip card so that it is recognisable as a Deuschlandticket (unless you have objected to the changeover). In summer 2023 you will automatically receive a new chip card from us.

    If you have not received a sticker or have lost it, please contact us at deutschlandticket@rheinbahn.de.

    For tickets from major customers, the DeutschlandTicket sticker will be sent to the employees' private address from mid-April.

  • Due to supply bottlenecks, we currently do not have enough Deutschlandticket chip cards available. Therefore, we are temporarily using chip cards in the designs Ticket1000, FirmenTicket and YoungTicketPLUS and attaching a Deutschlandticket sticker to them. However, the chip cards are programmed as Deutschlandticket and can be used accordingly throughout Germany.

    In the next few months, we will automatically replace the provisional chip cards with stickers with Deutschlandticket chip cards.

  • For students, the NRW solidarity model of the SemesterTicket valid in NRW will remain in place for the time being. In addition, VRR students can upgrade to the DeutschlandTicket by paying a surcharge of 12.33 euros per month. The upgrade is only available in the app redy and is only valid in conjunction with a student ID from a university in the VRR area and a VRR/NRW semester ticket.

  • The semester ticket is still valid for the whole of NRW, and the rules for taking people and bicycles within the VRR remain unchanged. 

    The Deutschlandticket Upgrade additionally allows the use of local and regional transport throughout Germany.

  • The Deutschlandticket is only available by subscription. However, like our other subscriptions, it can be canceled monthly on the 10th of the previous month. No further costs are incurred.

    This also applies to the VRR Bicycle Aboticket and the VRR 1st Class Aboticket.                                                              

    Students who have taken out the Upgrade Ticket can cancel the subscription via the redy app by the 10th of the previous month.

  • The barcode for the subscription must be presented in the respective app. Unfortunately, printouts cannot be accepted.

  • No, it is a non-transferable ticket. Accordingly, a photo ID must be carried when using it.

  • No, the ticket does not include this. Each person has to have their own ticket. Additional tickets for bicycles or dogs must be purchased according to the specifications of the respective transport association. Children under the age of 6 travel free of charge. Dogs can also be taken free of charge throughout the VRR network.

    From May 1st, the monthly bicycle ticket for the VRR area can be booked for 29 euros per month.

  • The Deutschlandticket is only valid for 2nd class.

    However, from 1 May, a 1st class monthly ticket can be booked for the VRR area at a price of 46 euros per month.

  • yes, journeys to the Netherlands (e.g. Venlo or Arnhem) are possible. The following lines can be used:

    • RE 13 (Hamm - Unna - Hagen - Wuppertal - Düsseldorf - Mönchengladbach - Viersen - Venlo).  
    • RE 19 (Düsseldorf Hbf - Duisburg - Oberhausen - Dinslaken - Wesel - Bocholt / Emmerich - Emmerich-Elten - Zevenaar - Arnhem)
    • SB 58 (Emmerich Bf - Nijmegen HAN)
    • Bus line 29 (Neukirchen -Vl. Vluyner Südring- Straelen - Venlo)
    • Bus line 60 (Kleve Bf - Millingen de Gelderse Poort)
    • Bus line 91 (Emmerich Bf - 's-Heerenberg Molenpoort)

    For journeys made exclusively within the Dutch territories or beyond the lines just mentioned, the Dutch fare continues to apply. The Deutschlandticket is only valid on the lines just mentioned.
