FAQs Rheinbahn APP

  • Sign up via “My Rheinbahn”. This account can also be used for App redy as well as AboOnline and other potential digital applications at Rheinbahn.

  • Since they are different booking systems, the existing tickets cannot be transferred.

The old Rheinbahn App ("Fahrplanauskunft") has been deactivated at the end of February 2023. In case you did not use your existing multi-trip tickets until then you will find them now in the HandyTicket Deutschland App. Here you can simply log in with your login details from the old Rheinbahn App to access the tickets you have already purchased.

  • To change your subscription into the new Rheinbahn App, please proceed as follows (Attention: not yet possible for corporate customers):

    • Install the new Rheinbahn App if you haven't done so already.
    • Sign up using the login icon in the top right-hand corner. (Your unique account for “My Rheinbahn” will be created here. If you already have an account for My Rheinbahn - for example via AboOnline or redy - you can log in directly with your details).
    • Logging in with your mobile phone number and PIN from the old App is no longer possible here.
    • After successfully signing up and confirming by email (double opt-in procedure), go to Menu > Subscription > Activate subscription via App.
    • Please enter your customer number here.
    • You then need to enter the last four digits of the IBAN that you have already saved with Rheinbahn, as well as your date of birth.
    • After you have accepted the terms and conditions and the privacy policy, click on the “Activate barcode” button.
    • The details entered will be checked live. If the details are correct, you will have successfully moved your subscription from the old App and you will now find your subscription in the new Rheinbahn App as a barcode under “My tickets”.
  • In the “Tickets” menu, you will find the “Subscription” section, where you select the option “Activate chip card in App” (not possible for transferable Ticket2000 and FirmenTicket).

The following details are now required:

    • Chip card number (alternatively you can simply scan the barcode on the chip card)
    • The last 4 digits of your IBAN saved with Rheinbahn
    • Date of birth

Then accept the terms and conditions and privacy policy and click on “Activate barcode”. You will now find your subscription as a barcode under the menu item “My Tickets”.

Please note that the chip card loses its validity immediately! You can return it at one of our Customer Centres or send it to us by post.

  • No. In the App, only personalised subscriptions can be created as a digital version; this is not the case with the transferable Ticket2000.

  • No, that is not possible at the moment. We will inform you as soon as this is possible.

  • For purchasing a YoungTicketPLUS ticket (subscription or monthly travel pass) in the new Rheinbahn App for the first time, it is necessary to upload your credentials (again) after signing up. These cannot be transferred from the old Rheinbahn App.

After the verification (which can take about one to three working days), you will receive a confirmation by email. The subscription is then immediately active and you can buy the monthly travel pass in the App.

  • After purchasing or activating a subscription, you will find the menu items “Subscription overview” and “Personal subscription details” in the “Subscription” section. Here you can view and manage your details.

  • Have you forgotten your password for “My Rheinbahn” for the Rheinbahn App and need a new one?

Please follow these steps: Rheinbahn App > Main menu > Log in > Click on Forgotten password.

You will then receive an email with a link to set a new password.

  • You can find your tickets purchased in the Rheinbahn App under the menu item “My tickets”.

  • Please show your mobile phone with the ticket (barcode) shown in Display to the ticket inspector. You will also need an official valid photo ID.

While boarding a bus, please scan your ticket directly at the ticket machine of the bus driver without being specially asked to do so. For this, hold your smartphone horizontally with the screen facing the scanner directly.

  • After purchasing a 4er or 10er ticket, you will immediately get the first “validated” trip. You can claim the remaining trips separately if required. Always use the same method for buying trips. The number of trips already bought is shown under “My Tickets” > “Purchased”. This way you are always informed about how many trips are still available. If you are travelling with multiple people, simply buy the required number of tickets at the same time.

  • If you are unable to show a mobile ticket during a ticket inspection, even though you bought a ticket before you started your trip, this will initially be regarded as travelling without a valid ticket. Please contact us if this happens.

  • Most tickets become valid as soon as you purchase them, some tickets allow you to set the validity start date before purchase.

  • No, mobile tickets cannot be refunded or cancelled.

  • App tickets can continue to be used without any restriction, even if they were purchased at a lower price in the previous year.

  • When signing up, you can choose between the payment methods PayPal, direct debit, credit card and the prepaid method (not available for eezy.nrw). With the prepaid method, you pay an amount in advance and can then use it up ticket by ticket. If you pay by direct debit or credit card, the amount will be debited automatically within the next 1 to 3 working days.

  • You can find the tickets purchased via the App under “My tickets”. If you have changed your mobile phone, log in with your “My Rheinbahn” account in the main menu under “Log in”. Tickets that are still valid are automatically displayed again.

  • Do not buy the ticket again. Please send an email to handyticket-rheinbahn@o-ton-online.de mentioning this with a description of the error.

  • The mobile ticket is not transferable. However, you can buy additional mobile tickets for other people accompanying you.

  • You can buy a mobile ticket at the same price as at our ticket machines and at Rheinbahn sales points. Also, you may be charged additionally by your mobile phone provider for mobile data usage.

  • We guarantee that your personal data will be handled with care and, of course, will not be passed on to third parties by Rheinbahn. You can find our comprehensive data protection regulations by clicking on the privacy policy.

  • You can easily pay for your tickets by credit card. It may happen that a TAN is requested during the purchase process to confirm the payment. This is the so-called 3-D Secure procedure, a security standard to protect against card misuse on the internet. We have no influence on the frequency of the verification. If you have any questions about the 3-D Secure procedure, please contact your bank.
