The 100th jubilee of the Rheinbahn was celebrated throughout 1996 at numerous events. |

February 1996
The Rheinbahn joined on the Carnival Monday's procession with a float that had the slogan of "Große Spruenge und nichts im Beutel" (Making progress despite a lack of funds). |

March 1996
On 25th March 1996, the Rheinbahn celebrated its 100th anniversary! At the CAPITOL musical theatre, the former central depot on 'Erkrather Straße', around 600 invited VIPs celebrated at a party, after taking a trip along the first section of track in the afternoon. |

 Tram parade on Easter Monday |

April 1996
A large-scale tram parade was held in Duesseldorf city centre on Easter Monday. 23 trams with a total of 38 coaches – from historic old-timers to the modern low-floor tram, which was showcased for the very first time on this day – travelled from the central station through the city centre to the University Clinic loop. Around 30,000 spectators watched this unique event. |

 The biggest exhibit at the jubilee exhibition: a model of the first Oberkassel Bridge over the Rhine, which was built between 1896 and 1898 by the Rheinbahn. |

May 1996
From 04.05. to 23.06. the big anniversary exhibition, "Under the Runner" (Unter dem Fluegelrad) was held at the Kunstpalast. Numerous other events were held at the Kunstpalast parallel to the Rheinbahn exhibition. |

 Open Day in Heerdt |

June 1996
On 29th /30th June, an open day was organised at the Heerdt depot. In addition to the tram and bus areas, visitors were able to inspect the large Rheinbahn central depot. |

 Exhibition in Ratingen |
|
August 1996
The Lierenfeld depot was opened to the public on 3rd /4th August. The entire extensive grounds were incorporated in the event.
The first of a series of four exhibitions was held between 31st May and 15th September in the Ratingen Town Hall. It depicted the history of the Rheinbahn’s Line 12 (today 712) to Ratingen. |

September 1996
Another open day took place at the Tiefenbroich depot on 8th September.
On 14th September, a jubilee concert by the Duesseldorf Symphonic Orchestra was performed at the Tonhalle. The orchestra only played works that had been composed in 1896.
Another tram parade took place on 15th September in Neuss city centre.
The next exhibition was held from 26th September to 14th October in Hilden Town Hall. It depicted the history of the Rheinbahn’s metre-gauge tram network in the region Bergisches Land. |

From 19th October to 3rd November, Mettmann Town Hall held an exhibition that focused on the history of the tram service to Mettmann and the Mettmann depot.
An open day took place at the Mettmann depot on 27th October. |

November 1996
The exhibition in Haan from 5th November to 26th November was based around the theme of the history of the O-Bus network in Haan. |
