The trams are lowered
In 1996, the Rheinbahn entered a new age: coinciding precisely with the company’s 100 th anniversary, the first new low-floor trams went into service. They enable passengers to board without having to climb steps and do not have platforms on the floors, which considerably simplifies journeys for low mobility passengers such as senior citizens, mothers with children or pushchairs and wheelchair users.
From 1996 onwards, these new trams were gradually introduced on lines 708, 715 and 703. The Rheinbahn took delivery of a total of 48 of these modern vehicles. The last vehicle went into operation at the beginning of 2000.
