Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr On 1 st January 1980 everything was in place: the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr, with 20 participating transport operators, including the Bundesbahn, came into being. The 20 million people served by the VRR transport authority were then able to use all public transport services at standardised ticket rates.
When the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr took stock after its first year of operation, the founding fathers were extremely satisfied. The supervisory board chairman, Heinrich Scheucken, reported to the board that the number of passengers had increased by 65 million. This corresponded to a 7.5 rate of increase.
The introduction of the standardised ticket rates resulted in higher passenger frequencies – and new Rheinbahn line numbers. Line 7 became Line 707 and started out from the central station.
